The Government of India has to take a call on the asylum plea of three Uyghur Muslims who are incarcerated in J&K, sources in State police said while insisting that \u201ctheir plea (for asylum) carries weight.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sources in police said they have examined the matter after the trio approached the High Court for seeking asylum in India as well as their release from prison.<\/p>\n
Adil, Abdul Khaliq and Abdul Salam, all residents of Xinjiang, China, were arrested by Army on June 12, 2013, near the Line of Actual Control in Leh district of Ladakh. Even after completing the jail term handed over to them by the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, the trio is still languishing in District Jail Leh.<\/p>\n
An officer said the Police Headquarters (PHQ) has forwarded its opinion on the matter to State Government.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn response to their petition, we have conveyed to the State Government that granting asylum or temporary refuge lies within the domain of Government of India,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
As reported by Greater Kashmir on Thursday, the trio has approached the High Court seeking directions to the Government of India and J&K Government to grant them temporary refuge\/ asylum.<\/p>\n
In the petition, the trio has also invoked international law and human rights violations allegedly committed against Uyghurs by Chinese authorities and Han community in Xinjiang province.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
