China has \u201ceffectively ejected\u201d an American journalist from the country, a journalists\u2019 association has <\/span>said,<\/span> after she won a reputation for hard-hitting reporting on the country\u2019s troubled western Xinjiang region<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Megha Rajagopalan, a correspondent for BuzzFeed<\/a>, wrote on Twitter that she would be moving on to another beat after the foreign ministry in Beijing \u201cdeclined to issue a new visa\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The decision to deny her a visa was condemned by the Foreign Correspondents\u2019 Club of China (FCCC). \u201cWe are attempting to get clarity from the foreign ministry on its reasoning for effectively ejecting a credentialed foreign journalist,\u201d it said in a statement.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe find this extremely regrettable and unacceptable for a government that repeatedly insists it welcomes foreign media to cover the country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
