That man, referred to as Nasibullah S. in the German press, was one of 69 Afghans sent back to Kabul last month, even though his asylum case was still pending.<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 20px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px; color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;\">Germany has stepped up its policy of deporting Afghans, despite concerns about security in Afghanistan. According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/worldviews\/wp\/2018\/07\/11\/german-leader-revels-in-deportations-in-a-week-when-a-refugee-sent-back-to-kabul-apparently-hanged-himself\/?utm_term=.4d63ce6abace\" style=\"color: rgb(16, 93, 145); text-decoration-line: underline;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Organization for Migration<\/a>, one of the young men deported to Afghanistan last month committed suicide by hanging just days after his return.<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 20px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px; color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;\">According to Bayerischer Rundfunk, the Uighur man in Bavaria was deported in the early hours of April 3 \u2014 the same day that he was due at an immigration office in Munich for a hearing about his asylum application.<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 20px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px; color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;\">The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BamF) claims to have sent a fax to the local administrative department to inform it of the hearing, but the fax was never received.<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 20px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px; color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;\">Local authorities in Munich say they still cannot find the fax, despite an extensive search. \u201cWe regret very much that a deportation took place despite a valid asylum application,\u201d the authorities said in a statement to Bayerischer Rundfunk. The BamF declined to comment but said the deportation was \u201cinadmissible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 20px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px; color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;\">The unnamed man fled China in January 2013, traveling to Munich via Turkey. He applied for asylum in February 2013. Munich is home to the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uyghurcongress.org\/en\/\" style=\"color: rgb(16, 93, 145); text-decoration-line: underline;\">World Uyghur Congress<\/a>, an international organization of exiled Uighur groups.<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 20px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px; color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;\">The Uighurs are a predominantly Muslim ethnic group and largely live in China\u2019s northwest. For the past year, there have been reports that China has built a network of camps designed to indoctrinate Uighurs in the Xinjiang region. Experts&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rE8Ve2nxPds\" style=\"color: rgb(16, 93, 145); text-decoration-line: underline;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">have estimated<\/a>&nbsp;the number of Uighurs being held against their will in these camps could be in the hundreds of thousands.<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 20px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px; color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;\">The fate of the young man deported to China is unclear.
