A Historian of Islam in China says an estimated five to ten percent of the Uyghur population find themselves imprisoned in internment <\/span>centres<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rian Thum told Radio Islam that the Uyghurs are subjected to forced indoctrination.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile people who are still outside of these internment <\/span>centres<\/span> are subject to a whole host of rules that make it nearly impossible for them to practice their religion and many of their cultural traditions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Thum<\/span> says a significant part of the Uyghur community remains dissatisfied with the rule of <\/span>Chinese<\/span> state.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt seems that under Xi Jinping, the Chinese government has decided it\u2019s willing to go almost any lengths to quench that dissent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

According to an opinion piece written by Thum, he states that \u2013 \u201cover the last decade, the Xinjiang authorities have accelerated policies to reshape Uighurs\u2019 habits \u2014 even, the state says, their thoughts.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
