In a region to the far west of China, whole families are disappearing.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

They are the Uyghurs from Xin Jiang \u2013 thought the Muslim group <\/span>prefer<\/span> the name \u2018East Turkestan\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

More than 10 million Uyghurs live there, along with other ethnic minorities.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

But there are increasing concerns that Uyghurs are being captured and held in camps.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Exactly what happens inside, no one for sure because they\u2019re surrounded by impenetrable walls and guards in <\/span>watch towers<\/span> and efforts by journalists to visit have been blocked by police.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The Chinese government insists they\u2019re boarding schools to eradicate extremism, but the United Nations says it\u2019s had credible reports that a million Uyghurs are being detained in massive internment camps.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Former detainees tell stories of torture and the indoctrination of communism.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

There\u2019s a small population of Uyghurs here, whose loved ones back home have fallen silent.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

They\u2019re pleading to our government to help stop what they say is an attempt to delete their race.<\/span><\/p>\n
